September 26, 2025: Killarney

We went about our usual routine this morning.  Bill had a Full Irish at breakfast and I had the mini.  On the buffet, there was an interesting baked square that I tried.  Oh, my goodness!  This sweet oat and chololatey bar is called a Flap Jack.  After asking the waitress about it, she came out of the kitchen with the recipe.  I would adapt, if I made it at home, but it sure was yummy.
This is what they look like.  No, this isn't my plate. 😂

Today was about exploring a little bit of the town and maybe not so far to walk for Bill's sake.  Walking by the front desk, the staff member asked how things were for us.  She was the one who had checked us in (and we suspect she had given us the upgrade).  By now, we have had the opportunity to walk past other "double" rooms as housekeeping was giving them a run through.  They were all at least half the size of our room.  We thanked her, once again, for providing a spacious and comfortable space for post-surgical healing.

We walked to where we will get our Flight Link bus to Dublin on Monday.  I can only imagine how nice that would be to have a dedicated service 4-5 times a day at home.  Transportation is so much more convenient here.

A little souvenir shopping was in the plan.  We did find ourselves an ornament and some Guiness fudge amongst a whole bunch of Leprechaun souvenirs which we didn't invest in. 😂

I also had a list of jewelry stores to look for a specific item that we were asked to bring back.  The store that stood out to me was Killarney Celtic Jewelry.  It's a small store with a variety of sterling silver and gold pieces.  I took a picture of this Celtic Letters chart for a calligraphic reference.
It didn't take us long to find what we were tasked to get - a stirling silver ring with a Connemara marble stone.  The marble is uniquely Irish, found only near Galway.
While we were looking around we came across a jewelry collection called Ring of Kerry, designed by Paul Kelly from Kenmare.  It seemed like it might be something I will get myself once we complete the walk next year - we hope.  Then, our attention was drawn toward something called the Celtic Warrior ring.  It was inspired by the Ardagh Chalice which is in the National Museum of Ireland as a prized artifact.  Nope, you don't get to see pictures here, but when we finally do conquer The Kerry Way, we will both feel like warriors, so it might be an investment.  We shall see!  Angela was a great help about other places to go and things to do and see.
We carried on down the streets and found our way to Kitty O Se's for a light lunch.
This restaurant was recommended by Theresa, one of Bill's roommates at the hospital, and she didn't steer us wrong.  The seafood chowder was a notch above any other we have had.  It was a busy little restaurant with modern, seaside decor.  The staff were attentive and the prices were reasonable.
We giggled at the mints we were given.  Haven't seen that word in a while.
By this time, we were quite close to Larkinley Guest Accommodation, so dropped by to see if Toni was home. Unfortunately, she was out shopping.  We do hope we can connect with her before we leave.

While on our walk back to our hotel, we sighted a couple of places Angela had recommended.

We enjoy winding down with dinner at Kayne's.  Fish and Chips were on the menu tonight (so I doubled down on Essentialzymes - LOL!).

It seems that the evenings are quickly filled with general chores, texts and emails before bed.  We do hope that a night of full rest will be on this agenda!
