With the confidence that taking today off was necessary, we slept until 8am, showered and packed our bags to be put out by 9am.
This hotel was built in 1792, opening as a stagecoach stop at the time. It is family owned and run, and you can see places where additions and changes were made over the years. The breakfast room feels very much like it was upscale in its day, with a bay window overlooking the hydrangeas in the garden out back.
I couldn't find an appetite at all this morning, picking at my oats. Feeling a cold coming on, taking the day off is worth it for me.
We arranged for an early arrival to our next B&B, which we will stay at for two nights. The bus stop was only a 5 minute walk from the Glenbeigh Hotel and our B&B in Cahersiveen is a other 15 minute walk. Transportation is so efficient and easy here.
For €5.60, the bus ride allowed us to see parts of, and imagine other parts of the 9 hour hike over our 30 minute bus ride.
Arriving in Cahersiveen, we ventured to the end of town to our B&B. Here are some.of the sights we saw.
Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty spent many years in Killarney, but he spent his retirement in Cahersiveen. He was most widely known for saving over 6500 Allied soldiers and Jews in Rome during Nazi occupation.
When we arrived at San Antoine, we were met by Alan and immediately greeted with kindness. I had emailed him the day before, stating that we were looking forward to our stay. When he showed us to our room, he gave us their most spacious, family room. I guess a friendly email can go a long way!
After a conversation with Alan about all things golf to back pain, we went out to grab a coffee and a snack, since we hadn't had lunch.
When we returned, we had heard from Fred that he had finished his walk. We later made plans to meet up at the Oratory for supper.
This is the second time we saw black pudding on a pizza menu, so I had to try it. It was actually quite good!
This old church, turned pizza and wine restaurant has quite the reputation in town. We really liked the ambiance of the church, and had a great time getting to know Fred.
Tomorrow is a rest day. We plan to do laundry (perhaps there will be soap this time?) and recoup.
