September 24, 2026 - Glencar to Glenbeigh

With only few of us at the inn this morning, we had a simple breakfast of pancakes and bacon with coffee.

We chatted briefly with Fred.  We are on the same route option today, so may see him.

Farewell, Climbers Inn!
The trail leaves town down a quiet road, then turns to a grassy quad track.  A pleasant way to start the day with a gentle breeze and bird song.
We had a short section of road walking to get back onto trail.  It was its own kind of wild.  We navigated rocks and boulders, gates and stiles, thick ferns and walked along the River Caragh.  Once we were through the rocky section, it was a flat stretch that opened to an unused road.

The forest wrapped around us like a blanket.  It felt cozy and protected.  We came upon a number of steps down into this beautiful sanctuary.  Like its own little fairy forest, we were grateful we got to see this.
We made the climb out of that special forest and back onto track that lead us past ruins and great views.  We even saw a perfect holly bush ready for the changing seasons.
A long descent brought us to a very busy road leading into Glenbeigh - N70.  We had 4km of walking on this typical Irish road with no shoulder.  It was a little nervy, to say the least.
We finally arrived at the Glenbeigh Hotel.  We were greeted by Corinna at the desk - she also waitresses and works at the bar...oh, amd she is the manager.  We were able to check in early.  We were spent!

After showers and a brief rest, we went for dinner downstairs.
Bill had a delicious looking pork loin with cranberry and apricot stuffing while I had their popular seafood dish.  All was very filling and tasty.

Today felt like we had both hit a wall. We were exhausted.  Tomorrow calls for rain and a 31km day.  We have decided to take the bus to Cahersiveen with the agreement that this is a vacation and, if at any point, we are not enjoying the walk, we need to reassess.

We will keep you posted!
