We caught up on lost sleep and woke to a beautiful day in Glasgow! We ventured out to Sexy Coffee for our morning dose of caffeine and pastries and set up our plan for the day. By the way, they have the largest croissants I have ever seen!
We walked through Central Station to take in the vibe! People with their work face on were ready for the day, and oh so friendly! I particularly enjoyed the mosaic art work and the pop-up shops.
We caught the Hop On Hop Off, with a couple of stops in mind and we learned some interesting facts.
-There are 2 square miles of glass in the Central Station roof.
- The Clydeside Distillery was built in 1877 and still produces.
- The Hydro is a concert theatre that lights up at nights.
Did you know that Glasgow has more theatre space per capita than anywhere in the UK?
We stopped to see the tall ship and the Transportation Museum. Both were very interesting. Of course, Bill was in his happy place with locomotives there.
Unfortunately, we missed the stop for the University of Glasgow, so we got off at St. George's Square, where it seemed like everyone was out for a lunch break. We were hungry, too, and a Sourdough pizza place with homemade organic Lemonade was right where we needed it to be! The pizzas were larger than I could eat - lucky Bill.
Bill and I ventured off to explore a little further before coming back to the hotel for a wee nap.
Tonight's mission was to put haggis on the menu. My sister, Laurie, had recently been here and recommended Cafe Gandolfi. I have to admit, haggis was one of the few things on the menu that we could recognize, but what a treat! This restaurant has the reputation of the best haggis in all of Scotland. It was moist and tasty!
The evening was complete with a walk over to the Pavillion Theatre to watch the Meat Loaf Tribute concert!
Carrying on, the lead singer of the Meat Loaf concert was a former American Idol contestant, Caleb Johnson, and, our seats were upgraded, which was a nice treat!
