Day 16 - Exploring St. Andrews

Today was our first full day in Edinburgh. It's such a beautiful city! We had picked up some yogurt and bananas to get us through our mornings while here at our Airbnb. Today's plan was an easy one - catch our tour to St. Andrews golf course! We walked the 27 minutes to the bus station, and took a few pictures of highlights as we went. We met up with Bobby, the driver for us, and 14 other tourists.

Our drive took us first to the viewpoint of Forth Bridge. Did you know that they have cameras set up to recognize every vehicle that crosses the bridges. If you cross the wrong bridge (based on the type of vehicle you have), you will receive a fine in the mail?!

Then, onward to Anstruther Harbour. What a pretty little community! We enjoy a quick break to stop at a bake stop for coffee and a treat.

The big event was to stop at St. Andrews! We were dropped off near the cathedral and the castle so we could wander our way down to the links.

Here is a courtyard at the university.

We got a chuckle out of this road sign.😂

And the home of Tom Morris.

The Dunhill Links was running this coming weekend, so there were several trucks and stages, signs and golfers out and about. Did I recognize anyone? Nope! But we found the Swilcan Bridge and got our picture on it!

Just look at how angry the North Sea was! Angry, yet beautiful!

We checked out the gift shop at the golf museum and realized their restaurant was actually reasonably priced, so a small lunch of cullen skink (fish soup) for me and ceasar salad for Bill was enjoyed. Too bad Bill forgot to ask them to skip the anchovies!🤢

Our next destination was Falkland. This sleepy little town was a filming location for Outlander - remember when the brown bonnet highlander was watching Claire in the shadows? 🤣

Minus the car!

On the drive home, we learned the over 85% of the land us usable for farming in this part of Scotland, unlike the Highlands.

Once we returned to Edinburgh, we caught up with our friends at the Black Bull for supper. One more day in Edinburgh. 💙🤍
